Our History

The Beginning of Tamai Sports

The programme began in 2018 through the vision of former Christ’s College Head Boy Max Goodwin and Assistant Director of Sport Stephen Dods and their desire to give back to the community through their passion for rugby.   Bothhad shared a strong belief in the power of sport participation to improve the lives of all young people..

Their initiative became the catalyst for the growth of Tamai Sports and highlighted the need to properly resource the programme so it could expand its reach and achieve its goals. What began with just 17 tamariki has since developed into something far larger and more impactful.

  • Founded in 2018 by Max Goodwin and Stephen Dods.
  • Driven by a shared commitment to community impact, starting with rugby.
  • Sparked the establishment and growth of Tamai Sports.
  • Identified early the need for greater resources to meet growing demand.

Expanded from an initial group of 17 tamariki to a much broader programme today.
