Tamai Sports & The Willows Cricket Club

During the past season, we launched a new program in partnership with The Willows Cricket Club, aimed at providing cricket opportunities for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 11. The program includes various benefits such as transportation, pre-training snacks, post-training light meals, playing uniforms, and cricket equipment. In the first year, we aimed to accommodate up to 24 children, and for the upcoming year, 2023, we plan to extend the program to Te Aratai College (formerly Linwood College) to help rebuild cricket as a sport in that school. We will also organised a fun day for all member schools to introduce the children to our program, with over 50 players participating in the second year.

Starting from October 2023, the program will run weekly during term 4 of 2023 and term 1 of 2024. Additionally, a school holiday program is scheduled for late January 2024.

This program will be delivered by qualified junior coaches who have been police vetted, ensuring the safety of the children involved. Our main objective is to bring the young cricketers to a level where they can confidently participate in competitive matches. Furthermore, we aim to connect these young players with local clubs for future seasons once they reach secondary school.
